Google Earth is an application that allows a user to span the globe from their desktop. Users can easily zoom in on any part of the world to view the area in better detail. Google Earth also features multiple “layers” that add additional data and context to areas of the map, such as news stories, pictures, videos, wikipedia entries, historical images and information, etc. Periodically, Google will update the satellite map imagery, providing more accurate and detail map information.
