Scientific calculators like the TI-83 can be confusing to turn off because there is no exclusive “OFF” key. The calculator will turn off by itself if you wait long enough, but there is an way to turn it off faster to save power. Most keys on the calculator have more than one function, and the second functions can be accessed with the “2ND” key. One of these hidden functions is the “OFF” function.
