Zip drives were first released in 1994. They used Zip discs, a larger, thicker version of the 3.5 floppy disc. The first Zip discs held 100MB of information. By 1999 they could hold up to 250MB. Zip discs and drives have largely been replaced by flash drives and CDs. If your computer does have a Zip drive, or if you have an external Zip drive and Zip disc you want to use, opening a file from a Zip drive is done similarly to opening any other computer drive.
